Northland is super excited about our “New Northland” construction and renovation project (did you see those renderings!). But we understand that there will be some disruptions and adjustments in service and access to our building during construction. Please bear with us throughout this project as we’ll probably need to make adjustments and last-minute updates as the project progresses. We sincerely appreciate your patience and kindness!
Details of adjustments:
- NEW (October 28) – Intermittent closures of the lower level road/drive as you come off Cumberland Road can be expected starting on October 28, as exterior construction work begins.
- During these intermittent closures the construction team will block off the lower drive around the building coming off Cumberland Road. All patrons entering from Cumberland Road during an intermittent closure will need to turn right towards the upper level lot. The upper lot at this intersection will become two way traffic. Again, this is during intermittent closures only. These closures may be 10 minutes, they may be two hours or three hours or anywhere in between and adjacent. Please be cautious, careful and drive slowly.
- Project timeline = September 30 (start) to completion in early Summer 2025.
- Normal construction activities will take place 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is approximate and could change slightly day to day. If you prefer a quieter library experience we encourage you to come in the late afternoon and evening or weekends.
- Lower-level main entrance and the lower-level lobby will be CLOSED for the duration of the project. The lower-level service desks will be relocated to Meeting Room 1 (see below).
- Access to the Children and Teen Services area, restrooms and meeting rooms (see below for adjustments to the meeting rooms) on the lower level will be OPEN.
- Upper-level entrance is OPEN and handicap accessible.
- Temporary lower-level entrances will be available near the lower-level parking lot – through the Learning Garden and near the Shipping and Receiving doors (“back” of building). Please follow the “yard signs” directing to “Temporary Entrance.”
- Checkout / Holds Pickup / Customer Service “desk” will be located on the lower-level in Meeting Room 1 – down the hallway past the elevator area (near the restrooms).
- A satellite Customer Service Desk will be located on the upper-level at the desk in the computer center – sign up for library cards, account information, and other customer service questions. This is not a reference desk that will answer questions about computer use, the collection and materials.
- Traffic coming off Cumberland Road around the lower-level parking lot will be ONE WAY around our building. If you park in the lower-level parking lot, please follow the one-way signs – you cannot exit from the lower-level parking areas onto Cumberland Road. You’ll have to travel around the entire building. Please follow directional signs.
- There will be some noise, especially at the beginning of the project, during the demolition phase (again, normal construction activities will take place Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. approximately).
- There may be some intermittent traffic rerouting in our lower-level parking areas…or a random closure for a few minutes while equipment is moved.
- There will be a construction fence around the lower-level entrance area and part of the parking lot. There will be equipment, materials and a temporary trailer construction office on site for the duration of the project. Please be careful and please do not climb on or play around equipment, fencing, materials, etc.
- Pay attention to all signage, cones, painted road signs, etc.
- Please be careful walking and driving – Please SLOW DOWN – due to new traffic patterns and activity that is sure to draw interest, please, please, please be careful and alert while driving or walking.
