June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21, October 19, November 16, December 21
The North Hills Genealogists hold monthly meetings both in-person at Christ Episcopal Church (Babcock Blvd & Browns Lane, 5910 Babcock Blvd) and virtually via Zoom. These monthly meetings each feature a guest speaker addressing the group on a subject related to genealogy. A “roundtable discussion” is periodically scheduled instead of a lecture, giving each person a chance to ask questions or tell of a great find.
To register, go to northhillsgenealogists.org and click on Meetings & Events.
MOVIE MATINEE – Every third Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in Rooms 148-2
Take a peek into the sights and culture of other lands through a travel or foreign film feature. No registration is required.
June 17 – Prague / Budapest (45 minutes)
This month we travel to the well-preserved city of Prague and the beautiful city of Budapest. In Prague we’ll see a six-hundred-year-old astronomical clock – still working, as well as the Prague Castle. In Budapest we’ll visit the castle district as well as the public hot springs that double as the city’s swimming pool. Lastly, we’ll take cruise down the Danube River to visit a few quaint old towns.
July 15 – Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight (South Africa 99 min.)
This movie is an autobiographical film based upon Alexandra Fuller’s childhood in colonial Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. It is the 1980’s and the white supremacists are trying to maintain their foot in Africa, but the natives are rebelling. This is the story of a family trying to get through these times. Beautifully shot, the acting is superb, especially that of the 7-year-old star.
August 19 – Japan (60 min.)
This month we have a special live presentation. Librarian and Adult Services Department Manager, Rebecca. Rebecca, has traveled to Japan twice. She would like to show you the beauty of the country and its people. We will see the vermilion gate/tunnel of the Inari Shrine, the beautiful Saihoji Temple and Studio Ghibli along with many other sites.
September 16 – Past Lives (Korea – 105 min.)
After Nora and Hae-Sung meet at twelve years of age, Nora moves away. Not until twenty-four years later do they meet again. In Korea “inyeon” means destined to be together whether it’s in the now, the past or the future. He just wants to see her one last time. Can she say goodbye? Nominated for 240 awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture, this poignant film will linger with you long after it ends.
