Beyond Books

At Northland, we lend more than just books!

Here are a few items we have for you to take home that are not books, but equally fun and educational!

American Girl Doll Lending Collection girl dolls
Did you know that you may invite a real American Girl Doll into your home for a very special visit?

They are back! The American Girl Dolls are back and ready to spend the week with you! Josefina, Luciana, Kit, Kirsten, Melody, Rebecca, and Maryellen have been refreshed!

  • Dolls must be checked out at and returned to the Children and Teen and Services Desk
  • Dolls can be borrowed for one week. They are non-requestable and non-renewable.
  • Dolls, accessories, and books are recommended for children seven and over.

Each doll comes in a carrying case that includes a wardrobe of her own clothing, a book telling her story, and even a journal for you to write memories of your time with her.

Board Games
Here are some of the games we lend.

    • Kingdomino & Queendomino
    • My First Carcassonne
    • Spot It!
    • The Allowance Game
    • The Tea Dragon Society Card Game
    • Ticket to Ride: First Journey

Yoga Kits
Interested in exploring the health and wellness benefits of yoga at home?

Northland has created six yoga kits to make it easy: Family Yoga, Dinosaur Yoga, Good Morning Yoga, Goodnight Yoga, Animal Yoga, and Yoga for Teens.

Each kit includes DVDs, books, a calming bubble-timer, and yoga blocks, in a colorful carry-all.

Yoga kits are available in the Children and Teen Services Department.

Northland’s Yoga Kits were made possible by a grant from the Network of the National Library of Medicine.

Take-Home Science in a Box
Did you ever wonder why or how some things happen? Try one of Northland’s new “Take Home Science in a Box,” kits. These hands-on experiments will let you become an expert. All of the experiments have been tested by staff for safety and accuracy. You may have to provide some of the ingredients, but they are generally found around your house.

Stop by the Children & Teen Services reference desk for more information and to check out these science kits. Each kit circulates for one week.

Click HERE for a list of all the Take Home Science Kits we have available and to keep track of the ones you have tried at home or stop by the children’s/young adult reference desk for a copy.

Note: Northland Library’s Take Home Science in a Box is only available to children age 5 years and older. Kits must be checked out at and returned to the children’s/teens reference desk. There is a $10 replacement fee for science kits not returned. This project is supported by a grant from the Bentley Corporation.

Ukuleles
Ukuleles circulate for 21 days are not hold-able nor renewable. Fine = $0.25 per day. They must be checked out and returned to the CATS desk.

Video Games
We have video games for several different gaming systems for children and teens. All games are rated G, E or T. You can search the catalog and request video games.
