Age Range:
High School or Home-Schooled Juniors & Seniors
Requirements:
Reside in one of Northland’s supporting municipalities: Bradford Woods, Franklin Park, Marshall, McCandless or Ross
Purpose/Mission:
To enhance the leadership abilities of interested high school juniors & seniors & introduce them to the governance of a nonprofit organization
Duties/Expectations of Junior Board Member:
- Serve a 1-year term
- Attend at least 8 NPL Authority Board meetings
- Give suggestions & input when asked (will not be able to vote)
- Serve on a committee (optional)
- Participate in board activities
- Participate in library fundraisers
- Review meeting materials prior to the meetings
- Failure to meet these expectations will result in revocation of board membership
Duties/Expectations of Board:
- Include junior board member in board discussions when appropriate
- Inform junior board member about board & committee activities
- Provide educational opportunities on topics such as leadership & non-profit boards
- Provide a letter of reference for the junior board member at the end of the 1-year term
Application Process:

- Timeframe:
- Applications available May 1st through July 1
- Applications will be reviewed by library administration and the top applicants will be invited to interview for the position.
- Library administration and the current junior board member will conduct interviews during the first two weeks in July.
- The top three candidates as well as the overall recommendation will be presented to the Board of Directors for final selection at the July board meeting.
- One student will be selected every year. A junior board member who serves during their junior year of high school may be invited to serve for one additional year.
- Term runs from September 1st of first year through August 31st of second year.
- Promote/recruit through library website, social media, local high schools, email to current Library volunteers and Children’s & Teens Department.
