The Northland Public Library (Northland) operates the Library and its programs so as to allow all individuals to participate equally in employment, volunteerism and purchasing and contracting opportunities. In addition, Northland makes its collection available to all residents of Allegheny County through the shared catalog and to all residents of Pennsylvania as an Access PA library. Library sponsored programs are open to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis.
In order to effectuate this commitment, Northland:
- Maintains an online employment page on our website where information regarding employment opportunities is posted regularly. This information is available on the Northland website at https://www.northlandlibrary.org.
- Advertises positions for employment on the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) website. This information is available at www.aclalibraries.org.
- Advertises positions on regional, state and/or national listservs as well as in local media and with local agencies where relevant.
- Provides full access to MBE/WBE/DBE businesses regarding purchasing and contracting activities and invites businesses to present proposals for purchasing and contract services. Northland bids out large scale services and projects as required by the Municipal Authorities Act, developing recipient lists through referrals from other for profit and not for profit agencies, community organizations, and civic groups.
- Promotes diversity in the appointment of Board members by advising appointing municipalities and providing the current “Board Member Qualifications & Responsibilities” document and sharing announcements of vacancies with the public through Northland’s social media.
The Executive Director is charged with implementing this policy. Actions related to this policy are monitored by the Policy & Planning Committee of the Northland Public Library Authority Board and overseen by the full Board.
