Northland Public Library Accommodations and Accessibility Policy
In accordance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), Northland Public Library (“NPL”) will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of their disability in its services, programs, activities or facilities.
ADA Coordinator
NPL has appointed Kelley Moten, Director of Library Services, to serve as the ADA Coordinator for all accommodation requests and accessibility issues regarding the public (including our patrons, board members suppliers, vendors, etc.) and for all issues regarding our facilities and property. Any member of the public can contact Kelley via email, phone or postal mail.
Requests for Accommodations or Accessibility
Effective Communications
NPL is committed to ensuring that its digital delivery channels, including northlandlibrary.org., its Facebook page and other digital media, provide equal access to all users and has implemented processes with a goal of continually improving accessibility and the user’s experience of our digital delivery services.
If you experience a barrier that affects your ability to access our sites and services, please contact our ADA Coordinator as soon as possible.
Modifications to Policies and Procedures
NPL will generally and upon request as outlined below, provide appropriate and reasonable aids and services to ensure effective communications for qualified individuals with disabilities so they can participate equally in NPL’s programs, services and activities. Such aids and services may include, but are not limited to, sign language interpreters, documents in alternate formats and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have impairments.
NPL will make all reasonable modifications to library policies, programs and our facilities to ensure that qualified people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy and participate in all of our programs, services and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in our library, even where pets are generally prohibited.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid, service for effective communication and/or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in one of our programs, activities or services should contact the ADA Coordinator as soon as possible to allow NPL to make every reasonable attempt to meet the need.
NPL will not charge a qualified individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing reasonable additional services or for modifying our processes, procedures or facilities.
Complaints
Anyone who feels that they have been discriminated against on the basis of disability by NPL has the right to submit a complaint by contacting the ADA Coordinator Kelley Moten. Her contact information appears below.
The ADA Coordinator will work with the individual to resolve the complaint on an informal level. If that is not possible, the individual can request to have the Executive Director review their complaint.
The ADA does not require NPL to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
