Build a Better World for Children – Register
(All ages through Fifth Grade)
Registration is required for some children and teen programs as noted. You may register online, in person at the children and teen reference desk or call 412-366-8100, extension 123.
**Reminder: If there is a delay in the Library’s opening due to inclement weather, morning programs will be cancelled.
Tiny Artwork: Artist Trading Cards
Friday, May 26 from 4-6 p.m.
For kids of all ages (kindergarten through adult). Join us under the tree in the Children’s Department to make artist trading cards. They are tiny (2.5″ x 3.5″) original works of drawing, painting, collage and printing. We will provide the materials for you to make up to five cards to trade or keep. Stay for as long or short a time as your inner artist desires. No registration necessary. (Wear old clothes!)

Children going into second through fifth grade are welcome to come join us on Tuesdays for an hour of engineering and Lego fun! No registration required!
Picture Book Picnic

Bring a blanket, pack your lunch and listen to stories while you eat! Storytime will be held outside on sunny days and in our meeting rooms if it is stormy (or too hot!) outside. No registration required.
Thursday Under the Tree
Begins June 15 – August 3 between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Each Thursday we will make something fun. We will try our hand at some crafts, science experiments and other tinkering types of activities. Drop in for some fun under our very own tree in the Children’s Department Children of all ages are welcome to be a maker during our Summer Reading Program.
The Pittsburgh Zoo Visit

As part of Northland’s Summer Reading Program, The Pittsburgh Zoo will be visiting with some of their animals! Please only register for one program. Ronald McDonald Book Time Show
Wednesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. – register
For summer reading participants in preschool through fifth grade. Music, magic and storytelling by world famous clown, Ronald McDonald! Ronald will amaze and entertain while encouraging elementary school kids to develop a daily reading habit. Registration required.
5th Annual Family Science Olympiad
Saturday, June 24 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. – register
Join us for our 5th Annual Family Science Olympiad. We will explore how to Build a Better World at six fun STEM stations. School age children and their families are invited to join in on the fun. Please register each child going into kindergarten through the fifth grade.
Nature-ology Presents An Ocean of Life
Monday, June 26 at 1 p.m. – register
As part of Northland’s Summer Reading Program, Nature-ology will be presenting An Ocean of Life. Space is limited, program space is strictly reserved for children in grades kindergarten through fifth. Registration required.

IF you are going into third, fourth or fifth grade, you will enjoy the five activities related to Build a Better World. Jeff Smith “The Geode Guy”

As part of Northland’s Summer Reading program, Jeff “The Geode Guy” Smith will be here to take us on a journey to Mexico and back! Jeff will share with us how he mines geodes and how he gets them back home. Jeff will have goodies available for purchase that he will open for you! No registration is required for this unique family program.
Welcome New American Girl Doll Melody

As part of Northland’s Summer Reading Program, we will be unveiling our latest American Girl Doll – Melody to our collection! We will be raffling off a chance to be the first one to borrow Melody! Winner must be at least 6 years old and live in one of our supporting municipalities. Registration is required.
The Pittsburgh Aviary Visit

Dennis Bowman’s Severe Atmosphere

Kindergarten through 5th grade
Ventriloquist (and TV meteorologist) Dennis Bowman brings along his quick-witted wooden sidekick Chester Drawers to entertain and teach kids about severe weather and storm safety. Registration required.
Harry Potter Day!

Families with children of all ages can join us at the library for a day of all things Harry Potter! Crafts, games, trivia and fun surprises! No registration required.
Fourth Annual Mother Goose Olympics!

Please drop in for the Fourth Annual Mother Goose Olympics! This program is for all ages and no registration is required. Rain date will be Thursday, August 3 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Barnyard Petting Zoo
Friday, August 4 from 10 a.m. – Noon
Moo, baa, oink, woof! The Barnyard Petting Zoo is back! Summer reading participants of all ages come and meet the baby farm animals. For a small fee, enjoy feeding the animals or giving them a bottle. No registration necessary.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Friday, August 4 from 4-5:30 p.m. – register
It’s time to let those Stuffies have a great time at our Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover! You will have fun with your stuffed animal friend. We will make a craft, listen to stories, sing some songs, and even enjoy a healthy snack. Then it will be time to say goodnight to your stuffed friend so they can have their very on sleepover at the library! You will be surprised at what your stuffie does when you are not with them. They may even have a gift for you when you pick them up in the morning! Cost for this program is $2.00 per stuffed animal which will be collected from July 15 through August 3. Registration is required for this program.
