In February the Tuesday Night Book Group will discuss Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. It is the story of Louie Zamperini, a juvenile delinquent-turned-Olympic runner-turned-Army hero, and the series of incredible catastrophes that occur after his plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean.
On March 6th we will discuss Blue Nights by Joan Didion.

Second Friday Book Discussion Group

Due to winter weather and poor road conditions, The Second Friday Book Group did not hold its January meeting. On Friday, February 10, the group will discuss I Think I Love You by Allison Pearson. The book for discussion in March is Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder. Bring a brown bag lunch at 11:30, Northland provides a beverage, and join our informal discussion which begins at noon. Foreign Film Series

As Valentine's Day is this month, we have a romantic French film on tap. "Shall We Kiss?" is about a couple who have just met. After a bite for dinner, Gabriel's offer of a goodnight kiss is met by Emilie with an unexpected rebuff. In a series of flashbacks, she tells a story of how a supposedly innocent peck can lead to a kiss with consequences. In the style of Woody Allen, there are many plot twists and a satisfying ending. Northland Knitters

Travel Film Series

We’re off to Minneapolis/St. Paul this month. We’ll take a Mark twain style steamboat ride down the Mississippi. We’ll stop by Minnehaha Park to see Longfellow’s inspiration for his epic poem “Song of Hiawatha”. We’ll tour the Hill House, the largest house in the Mid-West when it was built. Lastly we’ll shop till we drop at the world’s largest indoor mall - The Mall of America. So come join us on Wednesday, February 15 at 2pm. No reservation is required.
Serious Readers Group

This group, which meets on the fourth Saturday morning of each month, is enjoying good discussions on many of the books that have formed the outline of economic policies and political thought over the centuries.

Amateur Astronomy Club

Mystery-Lovers Book Group
