Textbook Collection
We are currently working with the North Allegheny School District to update our textbook collection. At this time we only have the current math textbooks for grades 1-5 available for use. New textbooks are coming on a regular basis. Please check this site for additional information as it becomes available.

Preschool Storytimes
ages 3-5years
Mondays at 10:00am and 1:00pm. January 23 -- March12 Preschoolers have fun with picture books, songs, and action rhymes. These are free programs, and no registration is necessary.

Wednesdays
January 25th, February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th; March 7th and 14th
Not sure your child is old enough to sit quietly through storytime? Don't worry -- our Mother Goose storytimes are designed for active toddlers. We build pre-reading skills through Library fun! These are free programs, and no registration is necessary.

Mother Goose for Walkers (formerly Kangaroo Storytime)
ages 24 - 36 months
Wednesdays at 10:00 am January 25 -- March 14
Children age twenty-four months through 36 months (with a parent, grandparent or caregiver) are invited for a half hour of nursery rhymes, music, movement and stories. These are free programs, and no registration is necessary.

Mother Goose for Crawlers
ages 6 - 24 months
Wednesdays at 11:00 am January 25 -- March 14
Children age six months through twenty-four months (with a parent, grandparent or caregiver) are invited for fifteen minutes of nursery rhymes, songs, tickles and bounces followed by time for free play. These are free programs, and no registration is necessary.

Mother Goose for Crawlers and Walkers
ages 6 - 36 months
Wednesdays at 7:00pm January 25-March 14
Children age six months through thirty-six months (with a parent, grandparent or caregiver) are invited for an hour of nursery rhymes, stories, songs, tickles, bounces, art exploration and free play. Siblings through age five are welcome to attend. These are free programs, and no registration is necessary.

Programs for School Age Children

Children's Chess Classes Beginner through Advanced players Grade One through Grade Eight
Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00pm January 10-February 21
Advanced registration necessary Space is limited. (please sign up at the Children's Reference desk or by phone before January 8th for the entire series ) These are free programs. Chess Instructor Greg Yoest and his assistants will help young players review the basics and ramp up their chess skills in preparation for Northland Library's annual Chess Tournament., chess sets and boards are provided.

Northland Public Library's Annual Chess Tournament
Saturday, February 25th 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Advanced registration required Registration begins February 1st at the Children's desk. Registration ends February 22nd. Click here for more information.

The Chess tournament is for children in kindergarten through 8th grade who live in Allegheny County. Two age divisions: Kindergarten through 4th grade and 5th through 8th grade. First, Second and third place trophies will be awarded in each division. Chess sets and boards will be provided. First place winners will advance to the County-wide tournament in March.

Library Playdate

Wednesday March 28th – April 18th at 10:00am

Babies and toddlers (6 months through 3 years) and their parents or caregivers are invited to Northland for a morning of books, play, and socializing. No registration is necessary for this free program, but admittance is limited by the space available. Grandparents & Tots Storytime

Friday March 23rd – April 20th at 10:00am

 

Ready for “grand” library fun? Grandparents and their grandchildren ages 6 months through 5 years will be gathering at Northland for nursery rhymes, songs, and classic stories.
