What do the Station numbers listed on some of the photos mean?
Allegheny County Department of Public Works road projects used a system of Station numbers to mark a specific location on a road during their projects. These stations were reference points that corresponded to the project map. Stations would be numbered every 100 feet from the beginning of each road project to the end of that project. Station numbers for each project were different, so a station number for a future project on the same road would likely refer to a different location unless that project began in the same place as the previous one.
