Meet the Local Authors of the Chief, Gene Collier and Rob Zeller
Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 pm
THE CHIEF is a one-man play that re-enacts the life of famous Pittsburgher
Art Rooney, founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise. The
play has had successful runs at the Pittsburgh Public Theater and is
now available in print for the first time including photographs of Art
Rooney and his family, members of the Steelers' teams and scenes from
the play. Co-authors, Gene Collier, award-winning columnist for the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Rob Zellers, education director at the
Pittsburgh Public Theater have written a warm, engaging portrait of
Rooney and his team as they gradually rose to prominence with a remarkable
run of playoff appearances beginning in 1972, capping the late '70's
with three Superbowl championships. The authors will share some interesting
and humorous accounts of their efforts in putting together the story
of Pittsburgh's beloved icon and the joy they shared in seeing local
actor, Tom Atkins, bring Art Rooney to life again in the first production
of their play. Signed copies of their book will be available for those
who wish to purchase them. Registration is required for this program.
