Boomer Connections @ Northland Library

Boomer Connections is an initiative organized by NPL Staff to develop innovative, model programs that target services and resources to connect active “boomer” adults with new opportunities for learning, work, community service, and social interaction. Award-Winning

In November at the Pennsylvania Library Association's annual conference, "Boomer Connections" at Northland Public Library received the 2008 AARP Pennsylvania Library Services for Older Adults Award. Two other Pennsylvania public libraries that received the award are Peters Township Public Library, in McMurray, and the Altoona Area Public Library.

Boomers are being challenged to accept a new role as caregivers for a parent, spouse, or child. Some of us are known as the "sandwiched generation" of caregivers, caring for more than one loved one, usually a parent and child, or a parent and spouse.

As a boomer reaching your 50s, you may be considering a change of careers, a change of lifestyle that provides more flexibility in your work and daily schedule, or a search for the kind of job you've always dreamed about. Where do you begin? Where do you find information about the opportunities available for the mature employee and how can you make the most of your experience and qualifications?

Northland Library's Boomer Connections presents series of workshops and panel discussions to help you explore the answers to these questions. These sessions are presented by speakers and panelists with experience in the field of human resources. When a new series begins, you may register for each of the programs online through the events calendar or by calling the Adult Reference Desk at 412-366-8100 X113. More information...

Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.
