Boomer Connections @ Northland Library

Boomer Connections is an initiative organized by NPL Staff to develop innovative, model programs that target services and resources to connect active “boomer” adults with new opportunities for learning, work, community service, and social interaction. To learn more, contact us at boomerconnections@einetwork.net.

Boomers are being challenged to accept a new role as caregivers for a parent, spouse, or child. Some of us are known as the "sandwiched generation" of caregivers, caring for more than one loved one, usually a parent and child, or a parent and spouse.

As a boomer reaching your 50s, you may be considering a change of careers, a change of lifestyle that provides more flexibility in your work and daily schedule, or a search for the kind of job you've always dreamed about. Where do you begin? Where do you find information about the opportunities available for the mature employee and how can you make the most of your experience and qualifications?

This fall, Northland Library's Boomer Connections will present a series of workshops and panel discussions to help you explore the answers to these questions. The sessions will be presented by speakers and panelists with experience in the field of human resources. More information...

Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.
Boomer Bibliophiles

A new book club is underway at Northland Public Library. We will read current highly acclaimed fiction and non-fiction from authors of the Baby Boomer generation (those born 1946-1964). While we'll focus on the Boomer generation, readers of all ages are welcome. We will meet at 7 pm on the second Thursday of every month at Northland Public Library.

On Tuesday, October 9, Boomer Bibliophiles will discuss 1776, David McCullough's magnificent account of the year 1776, in which a ragtag army of rebels led by George Washington took on the greatest army in the world. Registration for this program in not necessary--just show up! If you have any questions about "Boomer Bibliophiles", call the library 412-366-8100x113 or email Sydney Walden. At our November 13 meeting we will discuss The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.
